Irene Simm

We are sad to report the death of Irene Simm on 19th September.

Many will remember Irene (and husband Johnny) who transformed the then struggling Burghwallis club into the hugely successful Burghwallis pub, which they ran in the 1990’s and, before that, The Anne Arms at Sutton.

Irene was well known for her famous “carvery” meals, and pigeon pies, which people came from near and far to enjoy. In 1986, for example, such delights were available for the princely sum of £1.95!

Her funeral will take place at St. Helen’s Church in Burghwallis on Friday, 11th October at 10.30, followed by committal in the cemetery there.

A fuller obituary will be published after the funeral.
